Should you use Ledger Nano x or any other hardware wallet?
How complicated or easy is it to use Ledger Nano X?
Today, we will look into the detailed Ledger Nano X review to determine if it is worth our time and money.
What is the Ledger Nano X?
Ledger Nano X is a hardware wallet that lets you store unlimited Bitcoin, Ethereum (all ERC20 tokens), and many more supported blockchains. Ledger Nano X is a cold storage wallet that offers top-tier security.
By using a Ledger Nano X hardware wallet, you are ensuring the maximum safety of your cryptocurrencies. As Ledger Nano X stores your private key in the hardware device, your seed words (password to access your crypto) is never exposed to the outside world. This mechanism makes Ledger Nano X one of the most secure hardware wallets. If you are new to the concept of hardware wallets, you should check out my earlier post on the best hardware wallets.
Features:
Up to 100 apps
128×64 px screen
USB-C
Certified secure chip (CC EAL5+)
NFTs managing
Bluetooth connection
Ledger Nano X looks like a USB drive and can connect to your laptop or mobile devices using Bluetooth. This is a next-generation hardware wallet; before the “X” version, Ledger, a company headquartered in Paris, had “Ledger Nano S,” which lacked Bluetooth functionality. There are many differences between Ledger Nano S and Ledger Nano X, which we will look at in the upcoming comparison guide. For now, you should know that Ledger Nano X is way better than Ledger Nano S.
Ledger Nano X also gets regular firmware updates to add new features and increase the security. You can store all popular cryptocurrencies in this wallet.
Here is a video guide that shows you how to setup Ledger Nano X using a mobile device and Ledger live app:
Which all Crypto Assets are supported by Ledger Nano X?
Ledger Nano X supports all popular blockchains. For example, you can store Coins and tokens on the following blockchains:
Bitcoin.
Ethereum.
Bcash (BCH)
EOS.
Stellar.
Litecoin.
Monero.
Ripple (XRP)
ADA
Solana
NEAR
AVX
You can manage more than 5500 coins and tokens using Ledger Nano X. You can find the complete list of supported coins on Ledger Nano X here.
What is Ledger Live?
Ledger Live is the companion app for Ledger Nano X. Think of Ledge Nano X as the software interface (Software) to use your Ledger Nano X (Hardware). Ledger live app is free to download and is available for all primary desktop and mobile operating systems. You can use any USB cable (C type to A type) for connecting your hardware wallet to the Ledger Live app.
Ledger Live has many unique features such as:
Monitor your portfolio
Receive and send cryptocurrencies
Swap cryptos using the Paraswap app (Permissionless)
Buy crypto using Ledger Live App
Monitor your NFT portfolio
Manage cryptocurrencies and blockchain on Ledger Nano X device
Interface and ease of use:
Ledger Nano X is one of the most accessible hardware wallets to use. It is also natively supported by all popular decentralized apps such as the Metamask, Uniswap, and all famous Dex, to name a few. There are many Ledger Nano X alternatives, but no one has the broad support as Ledger wallets.
When you receive your Ledger Nano X (always order from the official website), you receive it in a temper-proof packing. After unboxing your Ledger Nano X, download the Ledger Live app and connect your device to your computer or mobile using USC-C to USB-A cable or via Bluetooth. You can set up your Ledger Nano X on desktop or mobile devices. The design and interface are simple to use, and ample instructions are available online and on the official Ledger live app to help you get started with the Ledger Nano X hardware wallet.
One important thing to note here: Your seed words will be shown on the screen of Ledger Nano X, and you need to note them down on a piece of paper, also called recovery sheet. The ledger team provides three recovery sheets in the box. This seed phrase is your password to access bitcoin and crypto, and if you lose your Ledger Nano X in the future, you can always recover your cryptocurrencies using seed words. So, it would help if you stored your seed word safely and securely. I have written a detailed guide on the best ways to keep your seed words securely. This guide is a must-read for anyone who is getting into crypto.
Ledger support:
Ledger company also provides support in case of any query or bug in the software. I recommend you to use only official live chat support, official FAQ, or submit a ticket via the official online contact form here. Overall, if you ever have a problem setting up a Ledger wallet or need any troubleshooting, you will get help.
The community of Ledger Nano X users is quite sizeable, which means you will find a lot of tutorials and guides for the same. Just ensure you never share your seed words with anyone in any scenario. Sharing your seed phrase is like giving your password to someone, and they can hack your cryptocurrencies from Ledger Nano X or any wallet that you are using or will use.
Ledger Nano X pricing:
Ledger Nano X costs about $119, and you can pay via credit card, debit card, or even via cryptocurrencies. They offer free shipping, and the device is usually shipped within one week. In the crypto bull market, this device is generally in high demand, and you might have to wait for more than a week. In the sideways or bear market, you might get the device as soon as possible.
One smart thing you can do is; instead of ordering one wallet, you can take their bundle offer as the second device would work as a backup device. You can read about this logic here in my earlier guide: Why you should order two or more hardware wallets.
Where to buy Ledger Nano X from?
You should always buy Ledger Nano X from the official website or, in some extreme cases, from their authorized resellers listed here. There have been instances where a user ordered a Ledger Nano wallet from eBay, which came with pre-filled seed words, and the user lost his cryptocurrencies. You can read about this on Reddit here. To be super safe, always order from the official website here.
Is there any discount on buying Ledger Nano X?
Unfortunately, there is no ongoing Ledger Nano X discount out there. They run a few promotion activities around the year and offer a 5-10% discount. You can subscribe to CoinSutra email or join our telegram channel to stay updated about the latest Ledger Nano X discount offers.
Ledger Nano X competitors and alternatives:
Back in the day, there was only a limited number of alternatives out there. Currently, there are many alternatives and competitors to Ledger Nano X.
Here are some of the top Ledger Nano X alternatives:
Ledger Nano S:
Ledger Nano S is the earlier version of Ledger Nano X which does not have Bluetooth feature and has limited memory space. Anyone looking for a cheaper alternative to Ledger Nano X should opt for Ledger Nano S. However, if money is not an issue for you, then any day, pick Ledger Nano X over Nano S.
Trezor Model T:
Trezor is another popular hardware wallet company with a Ledger Model T hardware wallet. Just like Ledger Nano X, it is secure and safe to use. I own both the device (for testing purposes), and I find Ledger devices to be more sturdy and usable. Trezor Model T costs around 249 Euro.
SecuX V20:
This is a beautifully designed hardware wallet and an alternative to Ledger Nano X. This offers vault grade security and has Bluetooth support. Some of the features of SecuX V20:
– Infineon CC EAL5+ certified Secure Element chip – 2.8 inches largest color touchscreen – 1000+ coins and tokens support – Chrome, iOS, and Android cross-platform – Bluetooth / USB Type-C connections
I will be doing a detailed review of SecuX V20 in the coming days.
My Ledger Nano X Experience:
Being an engineer and fascinated with the world of crypto gadgets, I ordered Ledger Nano X at an early stage. In fact, I made a few videos on our YouTube channel to help people get started with the Ledger device.
Ledger Nano X surpassed my expectations from the usability perspective. I was also an early user of Ledger Nano S and always complained about the buttons and small display. Comparatively, the Ledger Nano X display has a larger screen, and Bluetooth support makes it possible to use it while you are moving. There are a few Ledger Nano X accessories that you can order too to spice up your Ledger experience.
The storage capacity of Ledger Nano X is way higher than Ledger Nano S, so unlike the older version, I don’t have to uninstall the blockchain app. You will understand this part better when you start using the device.
I liked that you can use Ledger Nano X with a Metamask wallet, thus making your Metamask experience highly secure.
Unfortunately, this only work on the chrome extension, and currently, you can’t use Metamask mobile app with Ledger wallet.
Ledger live app (the companion software) is one of the safest crypto wallets out there and will make your Ledger Nano X journey seamless. Overall, I found Ledger Nano X to be the best wallet for crypto out there.
Conclusion: Ledger Nano X Review
With a price tag of $120 and a spectacular track record, Ledger Nano X is undoubtedly the kind of crypto hardware wallet. The device feels premium and it supports all major cryptocurrencies. It doesnot matter if you buy your Bitcoin from Coinbase or Binance, you can always store unlimited Bitcoin on your Ledger hardware wallet. The security of Ledger Nano X is top-notch, and according to many experts, it is un-hackable.
Overall, it is complete value for money, and if you have been thinking of ordering a Ledger Nano X, you should.
