Since the program’s inception in late 2017, today’s burn is the 19th quarterly event. It’s also the second quarterly auto-burn, with the number of tokens destroyed determined by the price of BNB and the number of blocks produced by the chain over the previous quarter. Previously, the quantity of BNB tokens burned per quarter was determined by the Binance exchange’s BNB trading volume. Today, the BNB Chain carried out its second automatic quarterly token burn, removing 1,830,382 BNB tokens worth $772 million from circulation. With the most recent burn, the total number of tokens burned has risen to 34,921,230 BNB, accounting for nearly 21% of the current circulating supply of 165,078,769 tokens.
