Twitter co-founder and Block CEO Jack Dorsey is teaming up with artist and entrepreneur Jay-Z to launch ‘The Bitcoin Academy’ at Marcy Houses, the public housing complex in Brooklyn, New York where the rapper grew up. Empowering Via Bitcoin According to its website, Bitcoin Academy aims to provide education and empower the community with knowledge and get rid of some of the barriers so that residents can learn more about Bitcoin specifically and finance in general. The program will be taught by Black Bitcoin Billionaire founder Lamar Wilson and Najah J. Roberts, founder of the first African American and woman-owned crypto exchange and education center in the U.S. Classes will be free and offered online or in-person from June to September, with in-person classes taking place two evenings per week. Those participating in the program will receive smartphones and MiFi devices with a one-year limited data plan. While focused exclusively on Marcy Houses for the time being, the program plans to expand to other neighborhoods in New York in the future. A “Crypto Kids Camp” will also be available for residents aged 5 to 17 on weekends.
